Ms Rose Ismail

rosemainMs Rose Ismail (Director & Co-Founder) graduated from the University of Melbourne (Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Political Science) and holds a Master of Science in Journalism from Boston University, US. She was with the New Straits Times (NST) for 25 years.

During her tenure there, she established Life & Times, the well-regarded features section of the newspaper. She also organised workshops for teens who went on to become reporters in various national and international outlets. Rose set up YouthQuake, the country’s first newspaper for young people, revamped the Newspaper-in-Education Unit (NIE) and successfully repositioned it in an already-crowded market. This resulted in a circulation boost of 65,000 copies a week. She also organised two national training conferences for 400 teachers under the NIE Unit.

After her tenure at the NST, she was appointed Senior Fellow at the Institute of Strategic and International Studies where she had the task of branding Malaysia for an international audience. For 7 years, she also ran her own company, which offered a wide range of editorial services, including training and execution of media relations.

Rose is a founding member of Sisters In Islam (SIS), a human rights organisation looking into the wellbeing of Muslim women in Malaysia. She has helped profile SIS on various platforms. Today, they are an internationally-known organisation.
